The Wrong Time for Golf

Arthur and Leo were enjoying a quiet round of golf on a Saturday afternoon. As Arthur was lining up a tricky fifteen-foot putt on the seventh hole, he noticed a long funeral procession passing slowly along the road that ran right next to the fence of the course.

Without saying a word, Arthur stopped his backswing. He took off his golf cap, closed his eyes, and bowed his head in a deep, solemn silence as the cars continued to crawl by. Leo watched in total awe, moved by his friend’s sudden display of character.

When the last car finally disappeared around the bend, Arthur calmly put his cap back on, picked up his putter, and began addressing his ball again.

"Arthur," Leo said softly, "that was honestly the most touching and respectful thing I have ever seen on a golf course. You are a truly honorable man."

Arthur didn’t even look up from the grass. He just sighed and said, "Well, it was the least I could do. We would have been married thirty years tomorrow."
