The Prison Escape Plan

Two prisoners had been planning their escape for weeks.

Every night, they whispered, drew diagrams, and timed the guard’s patrol down to the second.

Finally, the night came.

They quietly climbed out of their cell, slipped past the guards, and made their way to the outer wall.

Everything was going perfectly.

They found the ladder they had hidden, leaned it against the wall, and the first prisoner climbed up.

He reached the top, peeked over, then quickly climbed back down.

What happened? the second prisoner whispered.

The first prisoner shook his head.

We can’t go.

Why not?

The first prisoner looked at him seriously.

The gate is open.

The second prisoner frowned.

So? That’s good, right?

The first prisoner sighed.

No… it means this whole escape ain’t gonna count.
