The Mother In Law and the Lion

John was on a safari with his wife and his notoriously difficult mother-in-law, Gertrude. While walking near the edge of the camp, a massive lion suddenly leapt from the brush and pinned Gertrude to the ground.

John stood frozen just a few yards away, watching the struggle. His wife came running out of the tent, screaming at the top of her lungs, "John! Do something! Don't just stand there! Help her!"

John watched as the lion let out a thunderous roar and Gertrude started swatting at the beast with her heavy leather handbag, yelling at the lion for its poor manners and dusty mane. The lion looked genuinely confused by her aggression.

John folded his arms calmly and didn't move an inch. "I can't interfere," he shouted back to his wife over the noise.

"Why not?" she shrieked. "She's going to be eaten!"

John shook his head solemnly. "The lion got himself into this mess, and he’s just going to have to get himself out of it."
