The $100 First Tee Mistake
Bill was warming up at the driving range when a tall, older gentleman in a tattered sweater and ancient wooden clubs approached him. The man looked like he hadn't played in decades. Thinking he saw an easy mark, Bill smirked and said, "Care for a little wager on the first hole? A hundred bucks for the best drive?"
The old man hesitated, then nodded. "I suppose a friendly bet wouldn't hurt."
Bill stepped up to the tee and crushed a monster drive, three hundred yards straight down the middle. He leaned on his driver and grinned. "Your turn, pal. Try not to hurt yourself."
The old man stepped up, took a slow, creaky backswing, and hit a soft, looping shot that traveled barely fifty yards before a large hawk swooped down, snatched the ball mid-air, and flew toward the green. Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck the hawk, causing it to drop the ball. The ball landed on a passing turtle's back, which crawled toward the hole and let the ball roll off directly into the cup for a hole-in-one.
Bill stood there, speechless and pale. He pulled out a hundred-dollar bill and handed it over. "That was the most unbelievable thing I’ve ever seen. Who are you, some kind of professional?"
The old man tucked the money into his pocket and shrugged. "No. I’m just a retired accountant, but I’m having a really bad day."
