Little Johnny and the Spelling Lesson

Little Johnny was sitting in his third-grade classroom when his teacher decided to have a spelling and grammar exercise. "Class," she said, "I want you to spell a word and then use it in a sentence that describes something your father does."

A little girl named Mary raised her hand. "Cook. C-O-O-K. My dad likes to cook dinner on Sundays."

"Very good, Mary!" the teacher said. Then a boy named Timmy raised his hand. "Garden. G-A-R-D-E-N. My dad likes to work in the garden."

"Excellent, Timmy!" the teacher replied. Finally, she called on Little Johnny, who was waving his hand frantically. "Okay, Johnny, what is your word?"

"Permit," Johnny said proudly. "P-E-R-M-I-T."

"That is a great word, Johnny," the teacher smiled. "Now, give us a sentence using it."

Johnny grinned and said, "My dad ate some bad leftovers last night and let out a fart that was too loud for the room to permit!"
