A Question for the Wise Rabbi

A very wealthy but incredibly stressed businessman decided he needed a change. He traveled deep into the countryside to visit a Rabbi who was famous for his simple living and profound wisdom. After waiting for hours, the businessman was finally shown into a small, spare room where the Rabbi sat peacefully reading by a window.

"Rabbi," the man began, his voice trembling with exhaustion. "I have everything a person could want, yet I am miserable. Please, tell me the secret. How can I live to be a hundred years old with a smile on my face every single day?"

The Rabbi looked up from his book and studied the man’s expensive suit and frantic expression. "It is actually quite simple," the Rabbi said calmly. "To live a long and joyful life, you must give up all your worldly possessions, stop eating rich foods, quit smoking those expensive cigars, and never look at another woman as long as you live."

The businessman blinked, stunned by the severity of the advice. "And if I do all that," he whispered, "will I really live to be a hundred?"

The Rabbi shrugged and turned back to his page. "Probably not. But I guarantee you that after the first week, it’s going to feel like a hundred years."
